MAD MAX
(1979)
"Hey fella, you're a turkey you know that!"
GREASE
(1978)
"One of my diamonds fell in the macaroni!"
-Dinah Manoff
Honestly, despite them all being grown ass adults they're shockingly good at portraying the clumsy false machismo of high-school children. Sunny is easily a favorite, my man just can't catch a break and refuses to stop running his mouth at any chance he gets. I was also very surprised at the sudden intervention by God (Frankie Avalon) but good on him for supporting public education. The music is catchy, the jokes are pretty funny, and you can tell the actors are having a lot of fun. I enjoyed it more than I expected as musicals have never really been a subject of my interest, the prom dance number looked like a lot of fun too so gotta hand it to them. Also homie absolutely got his penis slammed in the car door.

The Shawshank Redemption
(1994)
"I guess it comes down to a simple choice. Get busy living, or get busy dying."
-Tim Robbins (1994)
I had heard of this movies praise before and it truly lives up to it. It didn't take long for this film to hold my attention but the moment Brooks released Jake I was enraptured. The films ability to convey the sense of loss one feels when becoming isolated from a community they were deeply a part of, and how even back then loneliness was deadly, was haunting and solid. The brutality of the system, be it the buracuracy, the systematic abuse, the backhanded dealings, it's all laid out and hammered into every thought you're left with. As a side note the mental flashbang of being reminded of the yodeling walmart kid was a fun surprise. Truly a timeless classic.

LIARLIAR
(1997)
"I humped her brains out!"
-Christopher Mayer (1997)
One of the first things that caught me by surprise was how much lawyers seemed to be hated back in the day. While I don't think they're exactly held as heros today it does feel they're much more trusted than police. Once the surprise moved past me I did find the movie pretty enjoyable. The plot was pretty cute and family friendly. Jim Carrey did what he does best, playing the over expressive, living cartoon that he is, and he does a great job at it. The love triangle felt a bit awkward and very much some sly comentary on the stigma of divorce in gener hence the final scene. The comedy did however manage to distract enough and make it an enjoyable experiance. I'd watch again if someone put it on but I don't think I'd say it's one of my favorites from Jim Carrey.
